AGHA administers four
main programs:
Health Rights Leadership
Through AGHA’s Health Rights Leadership Program,
AGHA conducts health and human rights
trainings in Mbarara, Tororo, Rakai and
Kampala, targeting health professionals,
civil society organizations and human rights

Health
Financing
Through its Health
Financing Program, AGHA brings together various
stakeholders to discuss and share ideas on
health sector budget allocation. In July
2006, AGHA organized a Health Economic Forum
that brought together Ministries of Health,
Finance and Economic Development, the Social
Services and Finance
Committees of Parliament, health workers, and
other stakeholders to discuss the
possibility of increased health financing
without macro economic problems in Uganda.

Anti-Stigma and Discrimination
Through its Anti-Stigma and Discrimination Program,
AGHA has established Anti-Stigma and
Discrimination Task Forces comprised of health
professionals and health care providers. These taskforces, established in each of the districts in which AGHA operates (Mbarara, Tororo, Rakai, and Kampala), reach out to colleagues and
communities to emphasize equal access to healthcare services void of discriminatory practices on the basis of HIV/AIDS status, sex,
age, or ethnicity.

Human Resources for Health
Uganda is currently facing a
health workforce crisis that threatens the
quality of care and the health rights of its
population. Uganda currently has only
one-third of the minimum number of doctors,
nurses, and midwives that the World Health
Organization recommends. Geographic
imbalances and migration to urban areas
leads to an inequitable distribution of
health workers, leaving rural areas.
